What is on Grid solar system?

The On Grid solar system means solar power generated from solar panel of our home or industry is tied to your local utility’s GRID.

How it works?

The on grid solar system consist of solar panel and the Solar panel is generating of DC current is converted into AC current by inverter and the AC current is connected to the bidirectional meter , it also called net meter through grid and home, which is monitoring production of solar system as well as consumption of house or industry,

The following are the major component of solar on grid system

1)      Solar Panels:  PMM Smart Future solution , Ranipet supplying premium brand M/s Loom solar Make  Mono crystalline Solar panel, which will produce high efficiency of DC current

Difference Mono crystalline solar panels and polycrystalline solar panels:  Mono crystalline solar panels have solar cells made from a single crystal of silicon, while polycrystalline solar panels have solar cells made from many silicon fragments melted together.

The Pros and Cons of Mono crystalline Solar Panels

While they are the most efficient solar cell on the market, there are several advantages and disadvantages that come with monocrystalline solar panels, each of which is listed below.

Here are some of the advantages of monocrystalline solar cells:

Ø  They have the highest level of efficiency at 15-20%

Ø  They require less space compared to other types due to their high efficiency

Ø  Manufacturers state that this form of solar cell lasts the longest, with most giving them a 25-year warranty

Ø  They perform better in low levels of sunlight, making them ideal for cloudy areas

Here are some of the disadvantages to monocrystalline solar cells:

Ø  They are the most expensive solar cells on the market, and so not in everyone’s price range

Ø  The performance levels tend to suffer from an increase in temperature. However, it is a small loss when compared to other forms of solar cell

Ø  There is a lot of waste material when the silicon is cut during manufacture

2) DCDB or AJB box (Direct Current distribution box or Array Junction box) A distribution board (also known as panel board or breaker panel) is a component of an electricity supply system which divides an electrical power feed into subsidiary circuits, while providing a protective fuse or circuit breaker for each circuit.

i) What is AJB?

AJB (array junction box) is also known as DCDB (direct current distribution box). It controls the DC power generated by solar panel and protect them from any kind of electrical damage.

ii) Why should I install ACDB and DCDB?

ACDB and DCDB both are safety equipment in solar system. It prevent solar panelsolar invertersolar battery and connected load as well. Therefore you should install ACDB and DCDB. The DC DB (Direct Current distribution box) Box contain three part, the single phase DCDB images are as follows

   a)      Fuses or MCB circuit breakers are used to protect the wiring from getting too hot and also protect all devices connected in the system from catching fire or getting damaged if a short circuit occurs, In the case of panels in parallel, a 30-amp fuse is required for each panel. If your panels are smaller than 50 watts, and 20 amp fuses are required.

b)      SPD- Surge Protection Device: : SPD or Surge Protection Device is used in the AJB/SCB. It protects electrical and electronic equipment from the power surges and voltage spikes. SPD diverts the excess voltage and current from transient or surge into ground through earthing system .

c)        Connector : which connecting to solar DC  power supply to Inverter

3) LA (Lightning Arrester ) Copper Lightning Arrester with Earthing Rod- lightning arrester is a device used on solar power systems to protect the insulation and conductors of the system from the damaging effects of lightning. The typical lightning arrester has a high-voltage terminal and a ground terminal.

 4) InverterPMM Smart Future solution, Ranipet supplying Luminous brand inverter or equivalent to branded inverter: solar inverter or PV inverter, is a type of electrical converter which converts the variable direct current (DC) output of a photovoltaic (PV) solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current (AC) that can be fed into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network. is used for DC current to AC current

4a) How many type of inverter in Market?

Three , There are 3 major types of inverters - sine wave (sometimes referred to as a "true" or "pure" sine wave), modified sine wave (actually a modified square wave), and square wave. A sine wave is what you get from your local utility company and (usually) from a generator.

5) ACDB: is alternative current distribution box. Basically it is a safety equipment in solar system which prevent solar inverter from heavy voltages. It installed between solar inverter and the load.

 6) Earthing system: There are two types of grounding in electrical and PV systems—equipment grounding and system grounding. Equipment grounding is known in the ROW as safety grounding or protective earthing.

Note: Normal earthing systems as per BS 7671 lists five types of earthing system: TN-S, TN-C-S, TT, TN-C, and IT. T = Earth (from the French word Terre) N = Neutral S = Separate C = Combined I = Isolated (The source of an IT system is either connected to earth through a deliberately introduced earthing impedance or is isolated from Earth

GI wire is the most common material for wire from building mains to earth. Earthing is done by a copper plate buried deep underground at a level where it remains in contact with ground water beneath. A thick GI wire from this plate comes up through a pipe, and goes to the mains panel,

How to select on grid system
There is 2 point to be consider during selection of solar on grid system,
1) During selection of solar on grid system your power cut to be consider if there is no power the on grid system will not work,
2) Availability of space to be consider while selecting the solar on grid system

Maintenance of Solar Panels:

How do you maintain solar panels?

The dustier your area, the more frequent inspection is recommended. This ensures that dirt, grime, bird droppings and debris do not block the sun from efficient absorption by the panels. There are a few ways you can clean your panels. The first (and easiest) way is to rinse of dust with a standard garden hose.

Do I need to turn off solar panels to clean?

Follow the instructions in your solar panel manual to completely shut off the system before attempting any sort of cleaning. Once this is done, brush off any loose dust and debris from your panels. Using just clean water and your soft brush with sponge and squeegee functions, remove any stubborn grime and residue,

How long will a solar panel last?

about 25-30 years

As a general solar industry rule of thumb, solar panels last about 25-30 years. However, this doesn't mean that they stop producing electricity after 25 years – it just means that energy production has declined by what manufacturers consider to be a significant amount,

Can you use a pressure washer to clean solar panels?

If you are going to clean your solar panels yourself, use water, a gentle soap like dishwashing detergent and a soft brush to get the buildup out of the corners. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive scrubbers and pressure washers, which could damage your solar panels,

Can you use vinegar to clean solar panels?

Fill a bucket with warm water and with a cleaning solution. Green cleaning supplies do a great job on glass and solar panels. Here's is a simple non-toxic recipe for glass cleaner: 1/4 cup vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon liquid non-abrasive soap or detergent, and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle.

What happens if a solar panel is not connected to anything?

ADDING to what has been said, at no load the solar cell will be operating in open circuit condition. If there is internal shunting resistance it will slightly load the solar cell. This shunt resistance must be high enough such that it will not cause an appreciable loss of the photo voltaic power.

What happens to solar panels after 25 years?

In reality, solar panels can last quite a bit longer than that: the warranty typically guarantees panels will work above 80% of their rated efficiency after 25 years. A study by NREL shows that the majority of panels still produce energy after 25 years, albeit at slightly reduced output.
